Old Sava Bridge Arch Span Pulled Ashore, Belgrade

A key phase in the dismantling of the Old Sava Bridge in Belgrade was the pulling of the steel arch span onto the riverbank, closely following the previously completed lifting and float-out operations.

The bridge element, removed during the summer of 2025, remained supported on TS52 lifting barges for several months. During this period, the necessary structural reinforcements were carried out, while a dedicated shore-side pulling track was constructed to enable the transfer of the structure onto land.

By September, the track system had been completed, allowing preparations for the pull-in operation to begin. The process required the coordinated work of multiple teams. While the pulling activities on land were executed by the specialists of Hídépítő Zrt., the HSP Ltd. team ensured coordination and operational support from the water.

The pull-in operation was carried out in eight phases using specialized transport bogies. During the movement of the several-hundred-ton steel arch structure, continuous position control played a critical role: the lifting systems installed on the barges continuously performed fine adjustments to maintain the structure’s alignment and ensure a smooth transition from floating transport to land-based movement.

The operation progressed step by step over the course of three days. As throughout the entire project, the focus remained on precise control and close coordination, with waterborne and landside activities continuously supporting one another to guarantee safe execution.

Following months of preparation, the arch structure was successfully brought ashore, marking the completion of one of the most complex and visually significant phases of the bridge dismantling project.
