Precise and Efficient Water-Based Operations on the Danube – Dismantling of the DN 400 Gas Pipeline between Dunafalva and Dunaszekcső
At the beginning of February, we arrived in the Dunafalva region to undertake a challenging task: dismantling a 400-meter-long gas pipeline that had been lying at the bottom of the Danube for 40 years. The project required meticulous preparation, as the first step involved removing the sediment and concrete covering the pipeline using our tracked excavator. The high water level of the Danube further complicated operations, posing challenges not only for divers but also for anchoring the equipment securely.
During the first two weeks, we cleared a 140-meter section, preparing the site for underwater cutting and pipe extraction. In early March, the project entered a new phase with the arrival of the Clark Ádám floating crane. The previously loosened and cut pipeline sections were lifted, placed onto barges, and transported away. This process continued until April 9, with careful supervision of every lifting and transportation maneuver.
On May 17, we completed the final pipe extraction, marking the conclusion of our water-based dismantling work. The aging pipeline was transported to the Dunavecse port, where KVV Zrt. managed its further processing. A crucial element of the project was the use of the Clark Ádám floating crane, which safely lifted pipe segments up to 30 meters long and weighing nearly 15 tons from the riverbed. Thanks to precise scheduling and expert execution, the dismantling process proceeded smoothly, meeting the highest industrial standards.
