In 2006, when the Tisza crested at an unprecedented level of 1009 cm. The appearance of seepage water and the inadequate height of the existing bank wall highlighted the need to reconstruct the flood protection system.

The development of the port’s infrastructure has given the region the opportunity to enter the European economic network. The port, located on the Danube-Main-Rhine axis, provides an excellent basis for linking water, rail and road transport, making it the largest intermodal logistics centre in Western Transdanubia.

The water management system of Lake Tisza was extremely deteriorated in the first 40 years of the lake’s existence, and the reservoir became silted up, causing water quantity and water quality problems.
